DATE/TIME: May 20, 2026, Approximately 4:00 P.M.
On February 11, 2026, the Redwood City Police Department responded to a report of a road rage incident involving a firearm at Costco located in Redwood City.
Responding officers learned the incident escalated into a confrontation in the parking lot, during which the suspect approached the victim, revealed a firearm concealed in his waistband, and made a threatening statement. Surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s account of the incident and assisted investigators in identifying the suspect as 43-year-old Menlo Park resident Jason Howk Chin. Officers attempted to contact Chin on the night of the incident, but he declined to speak with investigators.
Based on the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for Chin, his residence, and his vehicles.
On May 20, 2026, detectives located Chin driving away from his residence and conducted a traffic stop. Chin was detained without incident. Chin’s wife and two children were also inside the vehicle. The family members were cooperative throughout the contact and were not placed in restraints.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located a concealed loaded firearm.
Detectives subsequently served the residential search warrant at Chin’s Menlo Park residence. During the search, officers located a bedroom containing both adult and child sleeping areas, along with numerous children’s toys. Investigators located a loaded AR-15-style assault rifle and a loaded handgun on an exposed lower shelf within the room. Detectives determined the firearms were readily accessible to children inside the residence and were not properly secured.
Chin was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for violations of:
Penal Code 25400(a)(1) – Carrying a Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle
Penal Code 273a(a) – Child Endangerment
