Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Gloucester Township Police Arrest Suspect in Dangerous Misuse of Less Lethal Weapon 5-21-2026
Between December 2025 and May 2026, the Gloucester Township Police Department received three reports involving a male discharging what appeared to be a firearm in commercial parking lots along the Blackwood Clementon Road corridor, causing property damage. These incidents prompted heightened emergency responses from officers, as businesses and nearby individuals reported active gunfire in the area.
During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Gary Garadetsky and determined the reported firearm was suspected to be a device marketed as a “less lethal” or “self-defense” weapon system that utilizes solid metal kinetic ball projectiles.
On May 19, 2026, the Gloucester Township Special Response Team executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and vehicle. During the investigation, officers recovered four of these devices, along with numerous solid metal ball projectiles.
Gary Garadetsky was charged with three counts of third -degree Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices, three counts of fourth-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and three counts of Criminal Mischief. He was remanded to Camden County Jail.

These devices are commonly marketed as “less lethal” or “self-defense” weapon systems and often closely resemble firearms in appearance. They may discharge solid metal kinetic rounds, pepper irritant projectiles, or rubber balls.
The Gloucester Township Police Department’s priority remains public safety. Anyone who witnesses the reckless or unlawful use of these devices is encouraged to contact the Gloucester Township Police Department immediately.
