Incident: Petaluma Police Assist the California Highway Patrol in a Search for Stolen Vehicle Suspects

Location: 1600 Block of Calle Ranchero
On May 21, 2026, at 4:28 pm, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) requested assistance from the Petaluma Police Department in locating the occupants of a stolen vehicle. A CHP officer located a stolen vehicle near Lakeville Highway and Frates Road, and upon attempting an enforcement stop the vehicle fled. The CHP officer pursued the vehicle until it came to a stop at the dead end of the 1600 block of Calle Ranchero Drive. The male driver and female passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Petaluma Police Officers and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and assisted by setting up a perimeter. With the assistance CHP helicopter, “H30” overhead, officers conducted a search of the area. The thirty-four-year-old female passenger was located and arrested in a nearby creek. The male driver was not located.
The male was only described as a Hispanic adult wearing a white shirt and dark pants and either had a dark hat or dark hair. His location at this time is unknown but it is believed he fled the area. Although there is no known or specific threat, area residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity.
