NJDEP to conduct test pitting on Grove Street next week; Plan for daytime road closures
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) has advised the City of Hoboken that beginning Tuesday, May 26, crews will be performing test pitting and manhole investigations, as part of the NJDEP Rebuild by Design Hudson River project.
The work will require the closure of Grove Street between Newark Street in Hoboken and 18th Street in Jersey City, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., from Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, May 29. The road will reopen to traffic at the end of each shift, with Grove Street expected to be restored to its original traffic configuration by 5 p.m. Friday, May 29. The schedule is subject to weather-related changes.
Drivers should leave extra time and plan for delays when exiting or entering southwest Hoboken during working hours. Detours include Marin Boulevard and Jersey Avenue. Residents are encouraged to consider using northern routes in and out of the City.
Hoboken and Jersey City Police will be on site to assist with detours, and vehicular and pedestrian safety.
The purpose of this work is to gather information in preparation for future infrastructure work that will require a full Grove Street closure, currently scheduled to begin in the fall.
As a reminder, Marin Boulevard at Henderson Street is now open.
