The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for Unalaska and Nikolski regarding unseasonably strong winds expected to impact the area beginning this evening through Monday evening.
Expect winds to quickly increase this afternoon with sustained southeast winds of 20-35 mph and gusts of 45-60 mph. Winds are expected to peak overnight tonight into Monday morning before gradually diminishing Monday afternoon.
As the storm system moves east Monday evening, winds are expected to shift to the southwest, with gusts of 35-45 mph possible through Wednesday before conditions improve.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution while traveling or working outdoors, especially in exposed areas.
