The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Marine Enforcement Unit conducted it's 2026 Memorial Day Holiday Enforcement Operation starting on Friday, May 22nd through Monday, May 25th. The operation was conducted along the Colorado River from the California/Nevada state line to the Riverside County line as well as Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead. 

Most of the operation was focused on the waterways with resorts, launch ramps and marinas along the river and lakes.  A total of 9 patrol vessels, an OHV team, the Sheriff's Dive Team and a Sheriff's Department helicopter were deployed throughout the area. The Marine Enforcement Unit conducted a total of 145 enforcement stops throughout the holiday weekend. There was a total of 15 arrests made for boating under the influence and one arrest made for driving a vehicle under the influence.  The following are the names of the individuals arrested during the operation:

Matthew Zimmer, 51 years of age, resident of Lake Havasu City, Az.
Kavan Salas, 19 years of age, resident of Albuquerque, Nm.
Frank Bivinetto, 39 years of age, resident of Wilmington, Ca.
Ethan Jordan-Martinez, 24 years of age, resident of Apple Valley, Ca. 
Preston Wilczynski, 25 years of age, resident of Henderson, Nv.
Scott Galloway, 53 years of age, resident of Westminster, Ca.
Rodolfo Montoya, 33 years of age, resident of Altadena, Ca.
Gregory Patino, 37 years of age, resident of Surfside, Ca.
Carlos Garcia, 60 years of age, resident of El Monte, Ca.
Anthony Kennedy, 34 years of age, resident of Albuquerque, Nm.
Dennis Leash Jr., 56 years of age, resident of Lafayette, Co.
Jesus Chavez, 29 years of age, resident of Norwalk, Ca.
Lauden Holmes, 38 years of age, resident of Corona, Ca.
Christoper Lacy, 44 years of age, resident of Santa Ana, Ca.
William Maxwell, 22 years of age, resident of Ontario, Ca.
Ryan Dunn, 46 years of age, Palm Springs, Ca.

Approximately 84 citations were issued for various boating law violations as well as hundreds of verbal warnings.  The Marine Enforcement Unit investigated both a major injury and minor injury boat accident on the Colorado River in the Park Moabi channel.   
 
The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit urges all California residents to go online to www.californiaboatercard.com and take the online test to obtain their boater card which is now required by law. The Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit is, as always, dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and reminds everyone to wear their life jackets and to boat sober.
