The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from May 10th to May 16th.
May 10th
Driving Under the Influence - San Pablo Ave/Central Ave:
At 2:52 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then issued a citation and released to a sober relative.
Arson/Burglary - 11344 San Pablo Ave (Denny’s):
At 4:23 AM, an officer reported the suspect forced entry into an electrical room of the business and lit a fire.
Grand Theft – 700 block of Kearney St:
At 2:40 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect tampered with the electrical panel on the side of the building and stole the fuse box. Occurred between 4:00 PM on 5/9 and 2:40 PM on 5/10.
Battery – San Pablo Ave at Wall Ave:
At 3:08 PM, an officer was flagged down for a disturbance and accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after he punched the victim unprovoked. The suspect was the same as the previous incidents in the area and was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 11th
Grand Theft – Central Ave at Liberty St:
At 9:10 AM, an officer reports unidentified suspects stole the catalytic converter from a vehicle several hours prior.
Vandalism – 6000 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 9:43 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect tore the Ring doorbell off the wall and threw it in the trash between 5/8 and 5/11.
Warrant Arrest/Possess Controlled Substance – Blake St at Lexington Ave:
At 3:07 PM, an officer arrested a suspect on a warrant. During a search incident to arrest, a small useable amount of methamphetamine was located on his person. The suspect was issued a citation for the for the warrant and possession of narcotics.
May 12th
Sexual Battery/Indecent Exposure – 8000 El Cerrito Plaza (Macaroni Grill):
At 3:44 PM, the victim reported being sexually assaulted and the victim of indecent exposure 8 years ago.
Robbery/Theft with Priors – 5805 Cutting Blvd (Sketchers):
At 5:30 PM, the suspect entered the store and stole a pair of shoes. The suspect was located in the area and arrested. The suspect had several prior convictions for theft. The suspect was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Grand Theft Person – Adams Street at Carlson Blvd.
At 7:58 PM, the victim reported the suspect stole jewelry from her person earlier in the day.
May 13th
Theft of Copper Wires – Blake St at the BART Path:
At 10:34 AM, the victim reports the theft of copper wire.
Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 12:35 PM, Officers placed a suspect under arrest after they entered the store and began consuming merchandise. When confronted, the suspect attempted to retrieve the items from security by force. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Assault – 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks).
At 9:16 PM, the victim was inside the business when an unknown suspect punched the victim and fled the area prior to police arrival.
Vandalism – 11760 San Pablo Ave.
At 9:01 PM, the suspect used a rock and shattered two windows in two different businesses. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
Transportation and Possession for Sale of Narcotics/Possession of Prescription Medication/Suspended Driver’s License – San Pablo Ave at Portola Dr.
At 2:26 AM, officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver for transportation and sales of narcotics. The suspect was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 14th
Burglary – 11785 San Pablo Ave (Launderland):
At 1:20 PM, the victim reports a suspect entered the business, broke into a closet and took items from inside.
Throwing Items From a Moving Vehicle and Battery – Central Ave at San Pablo Ave:
At 3:00 PM, the victim reports while driving, another driver threw an item from a vehicle. The item struck the passenger in the face.
Assault – San Pablo Ave at Knott Ave:
At 6:30 PM, the victim reported they had been assaulted the previous day by an unknown suspect.
Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave at Lexington Ave:
At 6:49 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested the suspect on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The suspect was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Organized Retail Theft – 10650 San Pablo Ave (AutoZone).
At 6:53 PM, officers responded to a theft that just occurred. Two suspects requested an item from behind the counter. Afterwards one of the suspects distracted the employee and the other suspect fled the store with the item. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
May 15th
Warrant Arrest x3/Resisting Arrest/Post Community Release Supervision Violation:
At 1:11 AM, an officer recognized a wanted subject. The subject fled from the officer and when contacted later resisted arrest. The subject was tased and taken into custody. The subject transported to Kaiser Richmond for medical clearance. Once cleared they were booked at El Cerrito Police Department. The subject was on Post Community Release Supervision and a hold was obtained. The subject was transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
Robbery – 3160 Carlson Blvd (Grand Gas):
At 9:01 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole food items and pushed a cashier aside to commit the theft.
Possess Controlled Substance and Paraphernalia/Provide False info to Police Officer – 11511 San Pablo Ave:
At 10:28 AM, an officer responded to a disturbance and arrested a suspect for possession of a controlled substance which was in plain view. The suspect provided a false name. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department then released on a citation.
May 16th
Recovered Stolen Vehicle - San Pablo Ave at Cutting Blvd:
At 6:33 PM, officers received a FLOCK notification of a stolen vehicle in the area of San Pablo Ave and Cutting Blvd. An officer located the vehicle occupied in the Walgreens parking lot. Officers conducted a felony vehicle enforcement stop and detained the driver and passenger. The passenger was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine. During a criminal history check of the passenger, he was found to have at least two prior convictions for possession of narcotics. After both parties were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
