McDowell County Emergency Services will be conducting an emergency response exercise today at Catawba Falls in Old Fort from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The public may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel in the area during the exercise.
Emergency Services Director Will Kehler said the exercise will allow emergency personnel from multiple departments to test operational response plans and protocols at Catawba Falls.
“Catawba Falls is a popular destination that attracts thousands of visitors annually and has been the site of multiple rescue incidents in the past,” Kehler said. “This exercise provides an important opportunity for agencies to train together and strengthen coordinated response efforts.”
Officials ask visitors to use caution in the area.
