Suspect Arrested for Felony DUI and Hit and Run Causing Injury

San Mateo, CA – On May 26, 2026, at approximately 2:46 p.m., San Mateo police officers were dispatched to the area of Shoreview Avenue and Kehoe Avenue on a report of reckless driving and a hit and run involving a tan-colored Chevrolet pickup truck.

Officers arrived and determined multiple hit-and-run incidents had occurred in the area. Officers located both the suspect and the pickup truck in the 900 block of Norton Street. The suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile male, was found by officers to be intoxicated and non-cooperative with the investigation. While the suspect was being placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for medical clearance, officers learned a juvenile female passenger in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries during the hit-and-run sequence and was released to the custody of a parent.

After the execution of a blood draw warrant and subsequent medical clearance, the juvenile suspect was ultimately released to the custody of a guardian.

The San Mateo Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may negatively affect driving ability. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal in California, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal. Please report any suspected incidents of impaired driving to the San Mateo Police Department or your local law enforcement agency as soon as it is safe to do so.
