Advisory

Flood Advisory until 07:30PM

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Central McDowell County within the upper Catawba River watershed from Pleasant Gardens to Marion to the Lake James inlet.

* WHEN...Until 730 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 426 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated an axis of moderate to heavy showers oriented along a line from Pleasant Gardens to Marion to Nebo producing rates of 1-2" per hour. Isolated areas may have received up to 1.5" of rainfall over the past 60 minutes with an additional inch of rainfall possible. Given saturated soils, these showers may produce unusual excessive rainfall and cause nuisance flooding in common, flood-prone areas and small streams feeding the upper Catawba River, especially along and north of US 70. Areas of greatest concern for potential flooding include along Toms Creek and Johns Creek near Bald Mountain, Hankins Rd, and Fish Hatchery Rd. - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Marion, Lake James State Park, Pleasant Gardens and Nebo. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC

Instructions:

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
