San Leandro Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Hit and Run Collision 
San Leandro, CA – On Monday May 11th, around 5:00PM, SLPD Dispatch received calls regarding a hit and run traffic collision involving two vehicles within the 14400 block of Corvallis Street in San Leandro. Responding officers located an adult female San Leandro resident in her 50’s suffering from injuries related to the collision. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving the involved vehicle behind.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The San Leandro Police Department Traffic Division took investigative responsibility of the fatal hit and run collision and gathered evidence that led to Chuliao Wu, a 32-year-old Oakland resident, being identified as the driver responsible for the collision.
On May 28th, Wu was arrested by the Traffic Division for his involvement in the collision. Wu was booked for Vehicular Manslaughter with Gross Negligence and Felony Hit and Run. On May 29th, the case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, and charges were filed for the aforementioned offenses.
“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, friends, coworkers, and everyone affected by this loss,” said Lieutenant Jeff Walton. “This case required a coordinated effort across multiple units and demonstrates the commitment of our personnel to thoroughly investigate serious incidents. I want to thank our Traffic Division, patrol officers, dispatchers, and professional staff for their diligence and teamwork, which were instrumental in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
