Narrative:

On May 23, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Headquarters Station responded to a reported residential burglary in the 3000 block of Lakeshore Court in the unincorporated area of Ventura County.
The victim reported several expensive tools had been stolen, along with a high-end Ecotric Hammer Electric Bicycle. The victim also discovered their vehicle had been tampered with and appeared to have been rummaged through.
Headquarters patrol deputies canvased the area and located surveillance footage capturing two unknown suspects. The footage showed one suspect leaving the victim’s residence riding the stolen electric bicycle, while a second suspect appeared to be following in a vehicle. Deputies observed indicators suggesting the two suspects were working together. Headquarters Station Detectives immediately initiated a follow-up investigation.
On May 30, 2026 at approximately 1300, detectives observed the suspect vehicle being driven in the area 2000 block of Ocean Drive in the unincorporated area of Ventura County and conducted a traffic stop for vehicle code violations.  Detectives identified the driver and lone occupant as Nestor Tavares, a resident of Oxnard.  Detectives arrested Tavares for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
During a search of Tavares’ vehicle, detectives located evidence linking him to the residential burglary. Detectives also learned the Ventura County Sheriff's Office Thousand Oaks Detective Bureau had an active burglary investigation in which Tavares had also been identified as a suspect.
Tavares was arrested for violations of Health and Safety Code Section 11550 (Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance), two counts of Penal Code Section 459 (Burglary), and Penal Code Section 182(a)(1) (Conspiracy to Commit a Crime).
Headquarters Detectives are working with the Thousand Oaks Detective Bureau to identify the second suspect, who remains outstanding. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public’s assistance with any information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the outstanding suspect.
Tavares was booked into the Ventura County Jail on the aforementioned charges and is currently being held in lieu of $205,000 bail.
