The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from May 24th to May 30th.
May 24th
Auto Burglary - 2000 block of Harper St:
At 3:46 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and stole property.
Petty Theft – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness):
At 5:00 PM, an officer reports a theft of a bicycle that stolen while its owner was working out.
Vandalism - 1000 block of Everett St:
At 6:46 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect damaged a window to the victim’s house.
Identity Theft - 7700 block of Terrace Dr:
At 9:49 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect called the victim posing as a health worker and obtained the victim’s personal identifying information.
May 25th
Unlawful Use of Access Card – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 8:44 AM, an officer took a telephone report of a lost wallet. The victim got notifications that their card had been used at Safeway in El Cerrito.
Shoplift – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway):
At 3:43 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole items and fled.
Warrant Arrest/Possess Controlled Substance/Shoplift/Petty Theft with Priors – BART Path/Hill St:
At 3:58 PM, an officer arrested a suspect on a Placer County warrant during a stop for drinking in public. During a search incident to arrest, a small useable amount of methamphetamine was discovered in the suspect’s pocket. The suspect had a bag in his possession with Ross tags still on it. The bag was stuffed full of clothing, all with Ross tags. A check with Ross security revealed the suspect had been noticed committing the theft, but Ross did not call the police. Since the suspect was identified and in custody however, Ross desired prosecution and signed a citizen’s arrest. The suspect had two prior qualifying theft convictions. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 26th
Public Intoxication - 10800 Block of San Pablo Ave:
At 12:30 AM, officers were dispatched to the area for a subject walking in and out of traffic. Upon arrival officers located the subject who appeared to be intoxicated and could not care for himself. The subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft – 6060 Central Ave (Nations):
At 10:56 AM, the victim reports a suspect stole items from the establishment after being asked to leave.
Vandalism – 6300 block of Stockton Ave:
At 3:22 PM, the victim reports their property was damaged.
Stolen Vehicle – 500 block of Lexington Ave:
At 12:57 AM, the victim reported their vehicle had just been stolen.
May 27th
Vandalism – Manila Ave at Kearney St:
At 11:46 AM, the victim reports their property was damaged.
Driving Under the Influence – 200 Block of Carmel Ave:
At 1:06 PM, Officers were dispatched to the area for a collision. The driver of the vehicle was discovered to be driving while intoxicated. The driver was placed under arrest, transported to the El Cerrito Police Department. The driver was then released with a citation to a sober friend.
Robbery/Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Mayhem/Obstruction – BART path north of Wall Ave:
At 1:33 PM, Officers were dispatched to a report of a robbery in which the victim was struck multiple times with a wrench. The suspect then took possession of items carried by the victim. The suspect was located on the BART Path, identified, and placed under arrest. Due to medical complaints, the suspect was transported to a local Hospital, while still in police custody. The victim was also transported to a separate hospital to have their injuries assessed. Officers transported the suspect to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Sexual Assault – 5400 block of Barrett Ave:
At 8:23 PM, officers responded to a reported sexual assault. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Prowling – 600 block of Kearney St:
At 1:14 AM, officers responded to a prowling call. Two suspects were seen on the victim’s property. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
Assaulting a Peace Officer/Evading the Police/Evading the Police Wrong Way/Driving Under the Influence/Hit and Run/Obstructing a Peace Officer – I-80 Eastbound/Cutting Blvd:
At 1:57 AM, officers received a flock alert of a felony vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from officers and drove into a dead end. The suspect rammed a police vehicle and parked vehicle to escape. Officers pursued the vehicle throughout Richmond, San Pablo, and El Cerrito. The suspect drove into another dead end and officers blocked the vehicle with their patrol vehicles. The suspect rammed a police vehicle a second time. The suspect was arrested and transported to Martinez Detention Facility.
May 28th
Obstruction/Petty Theft with Priors/Assault on a Police Officer – 10387 San Pablo Ave (El Cerrito Natural Grocery):
At 9:22 AM, an Officer was flagged down regarding an individual inside of the establishment who was causing a disturbance and eating items they had not paid for. When the Officer attempted to contact the individual, they struck the Officer. The Officer then took the individual to the ground where they were placed under arrest. The individual was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department where it was discovered the individual had several convictions for theft. The individual was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Vandalism – 7100 block of Portola Dr:
At 9:39 PM, officers responded to a vandalism. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
May 29th
Stolen Vehicle – 1600 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 12:12 AM, the victim reported their vehicle was stolen.
Vehicle Theft – 6400 block of Portola Dr:
At 8:29 AM, an officer reports theft of a vehicle from the street between 9:30 PM on 5/28 and 8:30 AM on 5/29.
Vehicle Theft – 7900 block of Terrace Dr:
At 9:51 AM, an officer reports the theft of a vehicle between midnight and 9:30 AM.
Vandalism – 2000 block of Tapscott Ave:
At 3:22 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect broke a floodlight on the house, and tore a rear windshield wiper off the victim’s vehicle.
Warrant Arrest/Possession of a Switchblade - 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonalds):
At 8:15 PM, officers were at the business for an unrelated incident when officers recognized a subject in the area with an active arrest warrant. Officers contacted the subject and took them into custody for the warrant. During a search incident to arrest officers located a switchblade in the subject’s possession. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
May 30th
Driving Under the Influence - Center Ave/Yosemite Ave:
At 5:58 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
Shoplift/Theft with Priors/Delay Officer – 11650 San Pablo Ave (Baysics):
At 7:47 AM, an officer was flagged down by the shop owner as a suspect ran from the store with food items. The officer deatined the suspect and accepted the citizen’s arrest for the theft. The suspect refused to identify themself and had to be brought back to the El Cerrito Police Department for fingerprinting. After their right hand was fingerprinted, the suspect balled his left fist and refused to allow his left hand to be fingerprinted. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility as a John Doe on his refusal to identify. After the suspect was identified, a review of his criminal history revealed he had at least eight prior theft convictions.
Burglary – 6100 block of Cypress Ave:
At 9:04 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect broke the door handle and window of the victim vehicle between 10:00 PM on 5/29 and 8:00 AM on 5/30.
