ESCONDIDO, California – A 55-year-old woman sustained critical injuries early Friday morning when she was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North Broadway and Lincoln Parkway. The vehicle’s driver then fled the scene. The woman was standing on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection at about 12:40 a.m. next to a shopping cart containing her belongings. A dark-colored SUV, described as a lifted Jeep Wrangler or Rubicon with large tires, left the roadway and struck her. The vehicle also downed a street sign and a palm tree before fleeing north on Broadway and then east on East Lincoln Avenue. The woman was taken to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition. Police investigators are asking the public for assistance in locating the vehicle and its driver. Based on evidence at the scene, it is likely the vehicle sustained significant front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to call Traffic Investigator Peter McCollough at (760) 839-4930.

Mujer gravemente herida tras atropello y fuga ESCONDIDO, California – Una mujer de 55 años sufrió heridas críticas la madrugada del viernes al ser atropellada por un vehículo en la intersección de North Broadway y Lincoln Parkway. El conductor del vehículo se dio a la fuga tras el incidente. La mujer se encontraba en la acera, en la esquina noreste de la intersección, alrededor de las 12:40 a. m., junto a un carrito de compras que contenía sus pertenencias. Una camioneta SUV de color oscuro —descrita como un Jeep Wrangler o Rubicon con suspensión elevada y neumáticos grandes— se salió de la calzada y la atropelló. El vehículo también derribó una señal de tráfico y una palmera antes de huir en dirección norte por Broadway y luego hacia el este por East Lincoln Avenue. La mujer fue trasladada a un hospital de la zona, donde permanece en estado crítico. Los investigadores policiales solicitan la colaboración del público para localizar el vehículo y a su conductor.
