The NYC Emergency Management Department has issued a travel advisory for Saturday, 6/6 to Sunday, 6/7. New Yorkers are advised to prepare for potential heavy rain. 

The National Weather Service has forecast a total of 0.25 to .35 inches of rain with locally higher amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches possible.

Periods of heavy rain may cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low-lying spots. During periods of heavy rain, seek higher ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher floor. City agencies have taken action to clean catch basins and remove street litter in the event heavier rain occurs. 

 

Heavy rain may create dangerous travel conditions:
-  New Yorkers are advised to limit travel and stay inside during periods of severe weather.
-  If you must travel, exercise caution. Do not drive your vehicle or walk into areas where water covers the roadway as the water depth may be too great to allow you to cross safely.
-  If you are outside during a thunderstorm, avoid open areas and try to seek shelter indoors.
