At approximately 1:00 PM on June 5, 2026, officers from the Simi Valley Police Department responded to a reported assault in the area of Township Avenue and Tapo Street involving an adult female victim and several juveniles.
The victim reported that while seated inside her vehicle with the window down, she was struck by a substance discharged from gel blasters by a group of juveniles. She subsequently detected a strong odor consistent with urine. When the victim exited her vehicle to contact the juveniles, they fled the area. As they fled, an unknown male within the parking lot, shouted a racial slur.
Simi Valley Police Detectives responded to assist with the investigation. During the preliminary investigation, it was determined that two male juveniles fired in the direction of the victim. The victim positively identified one of the juveniles as being involved in discharging the substance.
The identified juvenile suspect was later located. Due to his age and the misdemeanor nature of the offense, he was not eligible for detention in juvenile hall. He was cited and released to a parent for violation of California Penal Code § 242 (Battery).
This case remains under active investigation. At this time, a hate crime has not been charged against the cited juvenile, as he was not the individual who made the racial slur. Detectives are continuing follow-up efforts to identify the individual responsible for the slur, as well as the remaining suspect involved in the assault. It has not yet been determined whether the outstanding suspect is the individual who made the racial slur.
