Flood Warning until 03:00AM Tuesday

Rain has ended with the first line of storms but flooding may continue to impact low-lying areas as runoff from excess rain continues. A few roads in southern Dickinson county have been reported with water over the road.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Portions of central and east central Kansas, including the following counties, in central Kansas, Dickinson. In east central Kansas, Geary, Morris and Wabaunsee.

* WHEN...Until 300 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1157 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 2.5 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Junction City, Herington, Alma, Chapman, White City, Alta Vista, Hope, Dwight, Woodbine, Parkerville, Carlton, Latimer and Volland. - This includes Interstate 70 between mile markers 323 and 329.

* AFFECTED AREAS: DICKINSON, KS ... GEARY, KS ... MORRIS, KS ... WABAUNSEE, KS

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
