DETAILS: On Monday, June 8, 2026, Amarillo Police officers responded to a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on the Hughes overpass near SW 1st.
The investigation indicates two motorcycles were traveling north on Hughes. One lost control and collided head-on with the SUV. The driver of the motorcycle, Travis Babcock (31) was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second motorcycle also lost control and crashed avoiding the SUV.
The second motorcycle driver and the driver of the SUV were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Next of kin has been notified.
The investigation is ongoing.
