SAFETY NOTICE FROM ECFD (East Chicago Fire Department):
151st Street is currently closed between Olcott Street and Tod Avenue due to a natural gas leak. NIPSCO and emergency crews are on scene and working to address the situation. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.
Residents and businesses in the immediate area should:
• Remain alert for any instructions from emergency personnel.
• If you smell natural gas (rotten egg odor), leave the area immediately and call 911 from a safe location.
• Avoid using matches, lighters, grills, or other open flames if gas is detected.
• Do not operate electrical switches, appliances, or devices if you suspect gas is present, as they could create a spark.
• Avoid the affected area and allow crews space to work safely.
