Suspect: Angel Reyes, 25-year-old, Hemet Resident
Information:
On Monday, June 8, 2026, at approximately 11:34 p.m., a Rialto Police Department patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on a maroon Dodge Charger which was stopped on the wrong side of the roadway in the area of Cedar Avenue and Bohnert Avenue. The driver failed to yield, resulting in the initiation of a vehicle pursuit and multiple vehicle code violations.
Within two minutes of fleeing, the suspect vehicle was traveling southbound on Locust Avenue at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop for a red traffic signal at Renaissance Parkway. The driver of the suspect vehicle, identified as Angel Reyes, of Hemet, collided with an uninvolved motorist. At the time of the collision, the pursuing officer was a significant distance behind the suspect vehicle and did not witness the collision.
Upon arriving at the collision scene, Rialto Police Department officers immediately rendered medical aid to all parties involved until relieved by personnel from the Rialto Fire Department. Despite lifesaving efforts, Mr. Oscar Torres sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Suspect Angel Reyes was transported to a local trauma center, where he remains in critical condition. Two adult male passengers in the suspect vehicle were also transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries.
Based on the preliminary investigation, alcohol and drug impairment are believed to be contributing factors in the collision. Investigators are coordinating with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office to review the facts of the case and determine the appropriate criminal charges.
At the time of this press release, Reyes has been arrested and remains hospitalized while receiving medical treatment. Reyes was arrested for the following felony violations:

The San Bernardino Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for conducting an independent traffic collision investigation. The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
