SUMMARY:
Swift action by San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Morongo Basin Station deputies led to the rescue of a kidnapping victim and the arrest of a suspect following a violent domestic assault in Twentynine Palms.

On May 31, 2026, at approximately 6:58 p.m., Sheriff's Dispatch received a report of a male physically assaulting a female near Amboy Road and Lear Avenue in Twentynine Palms.  Morongo Basin Station Deputies J. Vega and L. Gonzalez responded and interviewed a good Samaritan who witnessed an adult Hispanic male violently assault an adult Hispanic female.  The witness observed blood on the victim's face and mouth and blood on the suspect's forehead.  As the victim cried out for help, the suspect allegedly threw her to the ground, grabbed her by the neck, and forcibly placed her into a white Hyundai sport utility vehicle before fleeing the area.

Deputy Vega returned to the area during the early morning hours of June 1, 2026, to canvass nearby residences for surveillance footage.  At about 2:00 a.m., he discovered a white Hyundai SUV parked in the 68000 block of Amboy Road, approximately one-half mile from the reported kidnapping location.  As he approached the vehicle, he noticed the windows were shattered and there was blood strewn throughout the interior.

Additional Morongo Basin Station deputies responded to assist and contacted several individuals on the property.  Deputies located the suspect, identified as Victor Isiah Navarro, inside a small recreational vehicle (RV) with the victim.  Deputy L. Gonzalez served a search warrant for both the RV and the Hyundai SUV and recovered additional evidence from both locations, including a loaded Glock magazine, ammunition, and clothing matching the description of the suspect.

Navarro was arrested and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for PC 207- Kidnapping, PC 236- False Imprisonment, PC 594(a)(1)- Felony Vandalism, PC 30305(a)(1)- Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and PC 12022.1- Committing a Felony While Released on Bail.
