Heat Advisory and Severe Storm Warning - Cooling Center Open Through Friday
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Asbury Park area through 8 pm Friday, June 12. Dangerous heat and humidity are expected to continue through Friday, with high temperatures in the low to mid 90s and heat index values near or above 100 degrees.
A cooling center is open at the Asbury Park Senior Center, 1201 Springwood Avenue, 2nd Floor, Suite 102, today through Friday, June 12, with extended hours until 6 pm both days. Residents without air conditioning are especially encouraged to take advantage of this resource. For more information, call 732-988-5252.
Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are also possible this evening between 6 pm and midnight, with damaging wind gusts and heavy downpours as the main threats. Additional storms are possible Friday between 2 pm and 11 pm. Residents should stay weather-aware and monitor local forecasts for updates.
When storms are expected, avoid parking in flood-prone areas, including along the lakes, and under trees when possible.

- Stay in an air-conditioned location, especially during the warmest parts of the day
- Drink plenty of water
- Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
- Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours
- Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets
