SUMMARY: On June 12, 2026, the Victorville City Gang Impact Team (VCGIT) conducted proactive firearm suppression enforcement throughout the City of Victorville. The enforcement focused on identifying individuals unlawfully possessing firearms and reducing violent crime in areas historically impacted by gang activity, weapons offenses, and other criminal conduct. During the operation, deputies conducted multiple traffic enforcement stops, pedestrian contacts, and high-visibility patrols in designated high-crime areas.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., VCGIT deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop near Mojave Drive and Village Drive for vehicle code violations. During the stop, deputies contacted 24-year-old Taronn Scroggins, a resident of Victorville. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of an unregistered .38-caliber revolver. Scroggins was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for a felony violation of Penal Code 25850(a) – Carrying a Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle.
At approximately 11:17 p.m., VCGIT deputies conducted a traffic enforcement stop near El Evado Road and Hook Boulevard for vehicle code violations. During the stop, deputies contacted 42-year-old Marcal Thomas, a resident of Victorville. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a loaded 9mm Polymer 80 handgun, commonly referred to as a "ghost gun" due to the absence of a serial number. Deputies determined Thomas was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Thomas was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for felony violations of Penal Code 29800(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Penal Code 30305(a)(1) – Felon in Possession of Ammunition.
As a result of the enforcement, deputies recovered two illegally possessed firearms and arrested two individuals for felony weapons-related offenses. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department remains committed to proactively removing illegal firearms from our communities and holding violent offenders accountable. Firearm suppression operations such as these play a critical role in reducing gun violence, enhancing public safety, and improving the quality of life for residents throughout the City of Victorville.
