Culver City Police Arrest Suspect Following Violent Crime Spree
The Culver City Police Department is investigating a series of violent and reckless crimes that culminated in a pursuit through Culver City on the evening of June 16, 2026.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a suspect described as a Hispanic male adult allegedly carjacked a white Toyota Camry at knifepoint in downtown Los Angeles.
Approximately one hour later, at about 6:55 p.m., the suspect, driving the stolen vehicle, was involved in a felony hit-and-run collision near Centinela Avenue and Washington Boulevard in Culver City that injured four pedestrians. The suspect fled the scene without stopping. While officers were responding to that collision, another hit-and-run was reported in the 3800 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, where the same vehicle struck another motorist and again fled.
As officers investigated these incidents, information developed through witness statements, the vehicle’s license plate, and Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology helped officers locate the stolen vehicle as it continued traveling through Culver City.
At approximately 7:26 p.m., officers located the vehicle near Centinela Avenue and attempted an enforcement stop. The driver refused to yield and fled eastbound on Culver Boulevard, initiating a pursuit.
During the pursuit, officers observed the suspect drive with an extreme disregard for public safety. The suspect traveled at high speeds, ran multiple red lights, drove into opposing lanes of traffic, and weaved recklessly around other vehicles. Officers also observed the suspect repeatedly steer toward pedestrians who were in or near the roadway. Based on their observations, officers believed the suspect was intentionally attempting to strike pedestrians. The suspect’s actions created a clear and immediate danger to community members and demonstrated a complete disregard for human life.
As the pursuit continued, the suspect struck multiple victims throughout the city. Near Braddock Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard, the suspect struck an adult pedestrian. A short time later, near Culver Boulevard and Le Bourget Avenue, the suspect struck two juveniles riding an e-bike. The suspect then struck another pedestrian near Canfield Avenue and Culver Boulevard before continuing to flee from officers.
The pursuit ultimately came to an end in the 200 block of Washington Boulevard when the suspect collided head-on with another vehicle in a restaurant drive-thru lane. The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers.
One officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest and was treated at the scene. The pedestrian victims struck by the suspect range in age from 15 to 70 years old, and their injuries are considered non-life-threatening at the time of this release.
The suspect, identified as forty-five-year-old Juan Luis Estrada of Perris, was booked into the Culver City Jail on charges of carjacking, attempted murder, felony evading, battery, resisting arrest, and multiple charges of attempted murder. Additional charges are anticipated as detectives continue reviewing evidence, surveillance footage, and witness statements.
