Advisory

Weekend vehicle thefts

Over the weekend our officers investigated multiple reports of thefts from vehicles and two stolen vehicles. We are happy to report that both stolen vehicles have been recovered and the loss from the thefts was minimal. Help avoid being a victim of these types of crimes with these simple reminders:

-Never leave your keys in your vehicle. Both vehicles stolen over the weekend had the keys left in them. The overwhelming majority of vehicles stolen in our city are a result of keys being left behind.

-Lock your doors. We rarely see vehicles being accessed by force, most times offenders access unlocked vehicles and look for items to steal.

-Do not leave valuable items in plain sight. When offenders do use force to access a vehicle it is often to take an item left in plain sight. These items often include purses, backpacks, and firearms.

As always, never hesitate to call us if you see something suspicious. These offenders are often from outside the city and work in groups. If you see something, please report it to us by calling 911 or (859)292-3622.
