6/22 - At 2:59 a.m. a Millstadt Officer was dispatched to an address on South Tyler Street for a suspicious person looking into a vehicle. The Officer responded, and observed two suspicious subjects walking at Adams and Lafayette Streets. The subjects fled on foot, the Officer gave chase in his squad car, but the subjects ran through multiple yards. The Smithton and Freeburg Police Departments responded to assist. The Officers saw the subjects again, who continued to evade the Officers.
Since then we have taken one report of a stolen SUV, and multiple reports of vehicle burglaries in the west end of the village. Among the items taken was a handgun. Some vehicles were entered but nothing taken. There were no signs of forced entry to any of the vehicles. We have recovered a set of headphones, but are unaware of where they came from. The Metro East Auto Theft Task Force is assisting with this investigation.
