Police Arrest Newark Man Wanted for Domestic Violence Attempted Murder
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., reports the arrest of Jose R. Soares, 45, of Newark, who was being sought on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and stalking, involving a female victim he knows.
“I commend the Newark Police Fugitive Apprehension Section for their commitment to quickly locating this violent offender,” Director Miranda said. “Their tireless work to ensure that the suspect was apprehended to face these charges safeguards not only the victim, but every Newark resident and visitor.”
Soares was arrested on June 22, 2026, at Branch Brook Park, after a warrant for his arrest was issued on June 19, 2026, the date that he was identified as the suspect who stabbed a female victim in an incident that occurred that day. The suspect is also accused of repeatedly appearing at the victim’s residence unannounced, despite being repeatedly informed that his presence was not welcome.
These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. #newarknj #police #domesticviolence #arrest
