Simi Valley Man Charged with Attempted Murder, Other Charges for Store Attack
District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced today that Rejean Morgan Tabor (DOB 06/26/91), of Simi Valley, has been charged with felony willful, deliberate, premeditated attempted murder for the alleged strangulation attack of a shopper inside a Simi Valley Target store. Tabor is also charged with crimes involving four additional victims, including two misdemeanor counts of battery, one misdemeanor count of assault, and one misdemeanor count of child abuse for allegedly inflicting injury on a minor.
Tabor made his first court appearance today. No plea was entered, and criminal proceedings were suspended after the defense declared a doubt as to Tabor’s competency. He remains in custody with bail set at $750,000 pending a competency hearing scheduled for July 16, 2026.
On June 17, 2026,
Tabor walked into a Target store in Simi Valley when he allegedly approached a female victim from behind and began strangling her while covering her nose and mouth. As other shoppers rushed to help, Tabor allegedly attacked multiple Good Samaritans who intervened. One woman was pushed to the ground while attempting to pull Tabor away from the victim. Another shopper was allegedly bitten, struck and scratched while helping free the victim from the attacker.
After the victim escaped, Tabor is accused of throwing a glass bottle at a Target loss prevention employee and attacking a 16-year-old customer from behind. Responding officers ultimately took Tabor into custody inside the store.
Deputy District Attorney Sean Brunton, a member of the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office General Trials Unit, is prosecuting the case.
The alleged attack inside Target occurred less than 24 hours after Tabor was released from custody on mandatory supervision following his completed sentencing in two separate Ventura County criminal cases.
