NOTICE TO RESIDENTS
Severe Weather Alert
The City of East Chicago is currently experiencing severe weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, localized flooding, downed trees, and damage to property and vehicles. City departments and emergency response personnel have been mobilized and are actively responding to reports throughout the community.
The East Chicago Sanitary District has advised that the City’s sanitary and stormwater systems are operating as designed and continue to process stormwater at full capacity. As rainfall decreases, standing water is expected to gradually recede and be absorbed.
We ask residents for their patience and cooperation as public works crews, first responders, and utility personnel work to address storm-related issues safely and efficiently.
For your safety, please:
• Remain indoors whenever possible until the storm has passed.
• Avoid driving through flooded streets and areas with standing water.
• Stay clear of downed trees, power lines, and other storm debris.
• Report hazardous conditions to the appropriate utility provider or emergency services.
• Exercise extreme caution if travel is necessary.
The City will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep our community safe.
