Jewell Rd (28-29 Mile) asphalt preservation begins June 25 for approx. 30 days. Road is open; expect delays. Please Use alternate routes.
Dear Residents,
We are pleased to share another positive road improvement project taking place in Washington Township this summer.
JEWELL ROAD - 28-29 MILE: The Macomb County Department of Roads has announced that asphalt preservation work on Jewell Road between 28 Mile Road and 29 Mile Road is anticipated to begin on June 25, 2026, and is expected to be completed within approximately 30 days, weather permitting.
The roadway will remain open, and traffic will be maintained throughout construction operations. However, motorists should expect delays and may wish to seek alternate routes when possible. Access to all homes, businesses, and properties will be maintained during the project.
This improvement project includes:
• Pavement milling (removal of approximately 2 inches of existing asphalt)
• Resurfacing the roadway with a new 2-inch asphalt overlay
This work is being completed as part of the Macomb County Department of Roads 2026 Pavement Preservation Program (PPP).
27 MILE ROAD - VAN DYKE TO JEWELL: In addition, another section of 27 Mile Road, from Van Dyke Avenue to Jewell Road, is also scheduled for improvements this summer through the same Pavement Preservation Program. These investments help extend the life of our roadways while improving safety and driving conditions for residents.
MOUND ROAD - 29 MILE TO 32 MILE: Looking ahead, I am also excited to report that Washington Township and Macomb County have successfully secured a federal Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Grant that will fund approximately 80% of the construction costs for the rehabilitation of Mound Road between 29 Mile Road and 32 Mile Road. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2027, with Washington Township and Macomb County sharing the remaining 20% local match. This grant represents a significant savings to both township and county taxpayers while allowing us to make substantial infrastructure improvements.
We continue to work closely with our local, county, state, and federal partners to improve roads throughout our community while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars.
Thank you for your patience during construction season and for your continued support as we invest in Washington Township's infrastructure.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime.
Sincerely,
