Pascua Yaqui Police Department - Cooper's Hawks in New Pascua area

The Pascua Yaqui Police Department would like the community to exercise caution when near the IT Department, Dental, Health Programs, and Social Services areas, as indicated on the map. A family of Cooper's Hawks is currently watching over their young, and the parents may become aggressive if anyone gets too close.
About Cooper's Hawks
- The Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) is a powerful and adaptable bird of prey.
- Medium-sized hawk found throughout North America, including Arizona.
- Diet: Small birds, mammals, and sometimes lizards.
- Often seen year-round in southern Arizona. Breeding season is typically March-July. They may reuse the same nest year after year or return to the same nesting area.
- Slate-gray back and wings
- Reddish barring on the chest and belly
- Long tail with rounded tip and 3-4 dark bands
- Adults have red eyes; young have yellow eyes
