Advisory
Yesterday, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Marine Unit, in partnership with the U.S. Coast Guard, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, San Francisco Police Department, and Marin County Sheriff's Office, conducted a marine enforcement operation in the Oakland Estuary.
During the operation, officers issued several citations for illegal anchoring in the Estuary and towed vessels with expired registrations. OPD members also tagged more than two dozen vessels illegally anchored in the Estuary with notices requiring them to move or face being towed. OPD will continue enforcing California boating laws in the coming weeks, including requirements for a valid California Boater Card and current vessel registration.
OPD thanks its local, state, and federal partners for their assistance during yesterday's operation. The Oakland Police Department plans additional enforcement operations in and around Estuary Cove to enhance public safety, protect the environment, and improve access to Oakland's waterfront.
