Extreme heat watch to begin Wednesday in Hoboken; Prepare now for dangerous temperatures
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an extreme heat watch beginning Wednesday afternoon with heat index values up to 110 degrees possible. An air quality alert is currently in effect, until 11 p.m. tonight.
Residents should prepare now for what could be dangerous temperatures, as this type of extreme heat and humidity significantly increases the potential for heat-related illnesses, especially in the most vulnerable. Heath exhaustion and heat stroke are not only dangerous but can be life-threatening.
Please stay hydrated, in air conditioning as much as possible, and check on vulnerable neighbors, including those with chronic health issues and seniors. For those who must be out in the heat, the Hoboken Health Division recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded areas, or inside and in air conditioning whenever possible. Residents should also keep an eye on pets, keeping them cool and hydrated, and off hot asphalt or turf, for long periods of time.
Extreme heat can cause power outages. Customers who are impacted by a power outage should contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734 or report the outage at https://nj.pseg.com/outageandgasleaks
