Prescribed Burn Advisory
A prescribed burn is taking place near the top of Sonoma Mountain, east of Petaluma. Smoke will be visible throughout the area and is expected.
Please do not call 911 to report this smoke unless you see signs that indicate the fire is outside the planned burn area or there is an immediate threat to life or property.
Calls reporting the expected smoke are significantly impacting our dispatch center and can delay our ability to answer true emergencies.

More information:All Hands Ecology plans to conduct prescribed burns totaling 125 acres from June 29 as part of a multi-day plan on two private properties on Sonoma Mountain. The burns are part of an ongoing effort to collaboratively steward forest health, improve rangelands, build community resilience, and serve as valuable training for local fire managers. Fire will likely be visible to travelers on Highway 101 near the Petaluma exits. These are permitted burns; please avoid calling 9-1-1 to report smoke and fire in the prescribed area.
Smoke and traffic advisory:
Ignitions may begin as early as 8 a.m., with firing operations concluding by 5 p.m. Residents and travelers in the Sonoma Valley and Petaluma areas may see or smell smoke in the air for up to 10 hours. Fire will be visible to travelers on Highway 101; travelers may notice smoke and slowing traffic on Highway 101, Sonoma Highway 12, and Highway 128. Residual heat and smoke may be visible after dark and on ALERTCalifornia cameras.
