Advisory

Extreme Heat Expected Beginning Tomorrow

The Borough of Butler is advising residents that dangerously hot temperatures in excess of 100 degrees are expected to begin tomorrow and will continue through Saturday. We encourage everyone to take precautions to stay safe and help reduce demand on our electric and water systems during this period of extreme heat.
Stay Safe During Extreme Heat

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you are not thirsty.
  • Limit outdoor activities to the early morning or evening whenever possible.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period of time.
Cooling Center
Residents needing relief from the heat are welcome to visit the Butler Public Library (One Ace Road) during normal operating hours:
  • Wednesday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Thursday: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • Friday: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Saturday (July 4): Closed
Help Conserve Electricity
Periods of extreme heat place additional demand on the electric system. Residents can help by:
  • Setting thermostats to the highest comfortable temperature.
  • Closing blinds and curtains during the day.
  • Using major appliances, such as dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers, during the evening hours when possible.
  • Turning off unnecessary lights and unplugging electronics that are not in use.
Use Water Wisely
Hot weather also increases water demand. Residents are encouraged to:
  • Water lawns and gardens only if necessary and during the early morning or evening hours.
  • Repair leaking hoses or outdoor faucets.
  • Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
  • Avoid unnecessary outdoor water use whenever possible.
By taking a few simple precautions, we can help ensure our community remains safe while maintaining reliable electric and water service throughout the heat wave.
Please continue to monitor weather forecasts, stay hydrated, and check on family members and neighbors who may need assistance.
Stay safe and stay cool.
