The Burr Ridge Police Department received a report of a residential burglary that occurred this last evening at approximately 10:42 pm, at a home around 83rd Street & County Line Road
The resident answered a knock at their door and was met by a male wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans, with a camouflage mask or bandana covering his mouth. The male told the resident that a neighbor’s house was on fire. While this male distracted the resident, unknown offender(s) made entry to the home. The resident became suspicious and called 9-1-1. The male subject fled in a dark SUV, occupied by other individuals.
This type of burglary often targets the elderly, or people doing work outside their homes. The offenders will use several different “excuses” to distract a victim and gain compliance, such as posing as a utility worker, tree trimmer, or a handyman working on a neighbor’s house. Please share this information with friends, family, and neighbors.
Please remember to lock your doors, even when working in your yard. If you have a house alarm, set it, even if you are only leaving for a short time.
DO NOT LET A STRANGER INTO YOUR HOME.
