EXTREME HEAT ADVISORY

🚨 EXTREME HEAT WARNING FOR BERGEN COUNTY 🚨
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Bergen County.
🗓 When: Wednesday, July 1, from 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM
🌡 Expected Conditions:
• Heat index values of 100°–105°F, with some locations reaching 110°F
• Severe thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening, bringing:
⚠️ Damaging winds
⚠️ Large hail
⚠️ Torrential downpours
These conditions can be dangerous and life-threatening. Those most at risk include older adults, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, individuals without access to air conditioning, and anyone who works or spends extended periods outdoors.
✅ Take Action Now:
• Stay in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
• If you don’t have air conditioning, visit a friend or family member, or a local or Bergen County cooling center.
• Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or excessive caffeine.
• Limit strenuous outdoor activities, especially during the hottest part of the day.
• Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those who may need assistance.
• Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle—even for a few minutes.
Bergen County OEM is closely monitoring the weather and encourages all residents to prepare for both the dangerous heat and the potential for severe thunderstorms later in the day.

Due to the temperatures being in the 90s Tuesday, 6/30 through Sunday 7/5, cooling centers will be open at the Northwest (Midland Park), Southwest (E. Rutherford), Garfield, Bergenfield SACs, and One Bergen County Plaza from Tuesday , 6/30 through Sunday 7/5 from 9:00AM – 6:00PM.
