#LASD Parking Enforcement Begins Citing Daylighting Law and Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance Violations
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is reminding residents that personnel assigned to the Parking Enforcement Detail (PED) have begun issuing citations for violations of California's Daylighting Law and will also begin enforcing the Los Angeles County Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance.
The Daylighting Law prohibits parking within 20 feet of the approach side of a marked or unmarked crosswalk, or within 15 feet of the approach side of any crosswalk with a curb extension. The purpose of the law is to improve visibility at intersections, making it easier for drivers to see pedestrians and for pedestrians to see approaching traffic. The Daylighting Law Notice is listed as California Vehicle Code Section 22500(n), and it went into effect on January 1, 2025.
PED will also begin issuing citations for violations of the Los Angeles County Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance, which regulates where certain oversized and nonconforming vehicles may be parked within unincorporated Los Angeles County. The Nonconforming Vehicle Ordinance is listed as Los Angeles County Code Section 15.64.075. This ordinance went into effect on March 3, 2026, and it includes a towing provision.
Both violations will cost motorists $63.
LASD encourages motorists to take a few moments to familiarize themselves with these parking regulations before leaving their vehicles. Parking legally helps improve visibility, increases safety for pedestrians and motorists, and keeps roadways accessible for everyone.
Residents with questions about these parking regulations are encouraged to contact their local Sheriff's Station or the LASD Parking Enforcement Detail.
