Be mindful of extreme heat during the Holiday
The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the Extreme Heat Watch for Hoboken, through Saturday evening, with dangerously hot conditions expected and a heat index value of up to 112-degrees possible.
Those planning to celebrate outdoors for extended periods on July 4, are urged to prepare for the dangerous heat. Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions to protect themselves and loved ones by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, seeking shade or air-conditioning whenever possible, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and using sunscreen. Watch for signs of heat related illness, including dizziness, fainting, nausea, and more, especially in children, the elderly, and those with chronic health issues.
Important Public Safety reminders
HPD, OEM, the Hoboken Fire Department, and the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps (HVAC) will deploy enhanced patrols and staffing levels throughout the holiday to support the anticipated large crowds and ensure rapid emergency response capabilities. The Division of Health will have inspectors on duty to ensure food vendors are abiding by all health codes.
The City and public safety officials also remind residents and visitors that there will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence, public drinking, disorderly conduct, or other unlawful behavior. Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to Hoboken police at 201-420-2100.
Remember that it is illegal in New Jersey to light aerial consumer fireworks, including sky and bottle rockets, firecrackers, reloadable shell devices, and roman candles, among others. Those found guilty of purchasing, using, discharging, or igniting prohibited fireworks without a required permit, face penalties including jail time and fines.
Use of drones is not permitted during the 4th of July celebration and Sail 250 events. The FAA has issued strict guidance and penalties. Those who see a drone are asked to contact Hoboken Police at 201-420-2100 or contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
