Meridian Police Arrest Four Juveniles Following Vehicle Prowling Incident and Pursuit

MERIDIAN, Idaho — Four juveniles were arrested early Tuesday morning following a vehicle burglary investigation that led to a short vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit. At least one additional suspect remains outstanding.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., Meridian Police officers responded to the 2600 block of N. Records Avenue after receiving a report of a vehicle burglary. The victim's vehicle had been burglarized despite being locked.

When officers arrived, several individuals fled the area on foot while others fled in a stolen vehicle. Officers initiated a short vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, an officer attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the stolen vehicle, resulting in a collision between the patrol vehicle and the suspect vehicle. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officers established a perimeter and arrested four juvenile suspects. At least one additional suspect was able to flee the area and remains outstanding.

No injuries were reported as a result of the pursuit or the collision.
The four juveniles were arrested on charges including vehicle burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

A search of the stolen vehicle led to the recovery of an assortment of suspected stolen property of varying value, several burglary tools, and a handgun. Detectives are working to identify the owners of the recovered property and determine whether the evidence is connected to additional vehicle burglaries or other crimes.

All four juveniles were transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center.

Although the victim's vehicle in this case was locked, the Meridian Police Department reminds the public that locking vehicles remains one of the best ways to deter theft and reduce opportunities for criminals. Residents are also encouraged to remove valuables from their vehicles whenever possible and avoid leaving personal belongings in plain sight.

Additionally, the Meridian Police Department strongly encourages firearm owners not to leave firearms unattended inside vehicles. Stolen firearms are frequently used in subsequent crimes. If a firearm must be left in a vehicle, it should be secured in a locked vehicle safe or other secure storage container.

This investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to this incident or who believes they may have been the victim of a vehicle burglary is encouraged to contact the Meridian Police Department's non-emergency dispatch at 208-377-6790.
