Lawrence Extreme Heat Watch - Cooling Stations

An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for our area. Dangerously high temperatures and heat index values are expected over the next several days, increasing the risk of heat-related illness.

Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and check on older adults, young children, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

If you do not have access to air conditioning or need relief from the heat, cooling stations are available:

  1. Lawrence Township Senior Center – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday July 1 and Thursday July 2.
  2. Lawrence Township Police Headquarters Lobby – Open 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the heat wave.
  3. Mercer County Library – During its regular operating hours.

If you experience signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, move to a cool place immediately and seek medical attention. Call 911 if someone becomes unconscious, confused, or stops sweating during extreme heat.

IMPORTANT: A cooling station is a designated location that provides temporary relief from oppressive heat.  It is not intended as a shelter or a location that provides food and entertainment.
