On June 30, 2026, at 5:58 p.m. Deputy Wes Baumgart conducted a traffic stop on an electric bicycle after observing multiple equipment violations and a moving violation while it traveled on County Road 100 North, West of US 41. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Baumgart detected multiple clues that the driver, 33-year-old Justin Sims of Mount Carmel was under the influence. At that point he began a roadside DUI investigation that resulted in Mr. Sims being taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Detention Center. Upon arriving at the detention center Mr. Sims was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Sgt. Loren Barchet, Deputy Wyatt Hunt, and Deputy Jim Tucker assisted Deputy Baumgart in his investigation.
