Newark Fire Division Wants Everyone To Celebrate the 4th of July and BBQ Season Safely
The Newark Fire Division wants everyone to enjoy the upcoming 4th of July holiday and barbecue season safely.
Please use precaution as fireworks harm thousands of people annually, with many injuries, serious enough to require medical care. Children and young adults make up a significant portion of those who are hurt.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports as many as 14,700 people were injured by fireworks in 2024. Sadly, there were also 11 people who died in fireworks-related incidents. Burns were the most common injury.
During this summer’s barbecue season, please observe the following safety tips:
• For propane grills, check the gas tank for leaks before use
• Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from grills and trays below the grill
• Place the grill well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches
• Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it
• Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grilling area
• If you use starter fluid when charcoal grilling, only use charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid on any other flammable liquids to the fire. When you are finished grilling, let the coals cool completely before disposing of them in a metal container.
• Never leave your girl unattended while in use. #newarknj #4thofjuly #fireprevention #bbq
