Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., requests the public’s help in locating Danny Manuel Valdez Vargas, 28, who is wanted for questioning about a shooting that injured two victims on Friday, June 26, 2026.
At approximately 9:13 p.m., the ShotSpotter detection system picked up gunfire in the 1000 block of Bergen Street between Harding Terrace and Lehigh Avenue. When Police Officers arrived, they found a victim who had been shot in the foot and called Emergency Medical Services. Officers canvassed the area and located 16 shell casings from a .40 caliber weapon and 12 shell casings from a 9mm weapon. During the course of the investigation, officers learned that a second victim suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was being treated at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
