Community Reminder: Celebrate the Fourth Safely. Leave Fireworks to the Professionals.
As our nation celebrates its 250th Independence Day, the Novato Fire District reminds residents that all fireworks are illegal in Novato and throughout Marin County, including those labeled "Safe and Sane."
With dry vegetation and warm summer weather, even a single spark can quickly become a dangerous fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association, fireworks start more than 31,000 fires each year in the United States, including over 26,000 outdoor and vegetation fires.
Fireworks enforcement will be in effect throughout the holiday weekend. Violations may result in fines beginning at $410.
Please help protect your family, your neighbors, and our community by leaving the fireworks to the professionals.
To report a fire or other emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
To report illegal fireworks that are not an emergency:
• Within the City of Novato: Novato Police Department non-emergency line, (415) 897-4361
• Unincorporated areas of Novato: Marin County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line, (415) 473-2311
If you've already purchased fireworks, please don't use them. The Novato Police Department will accept fireworks for safe disposal.
As you celebrate, remember that wildfire risk remains high. Use caution with barbecues, fire pits, and other open flames, and make sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving them unattended.

• Marin County Fair (San Rafael): Nightly fireworks July 1-5
• Sausalito: Fireworks over Richardson Bay on July 4
• San Francisco: Fireworks near the Golden Gate Bridge on July 4
