Deputies Begin Investigation after Hospital Staff Contacted Police for Patient who Presented with Severe Injuries

LOCATION: 149000 Block of Del Rey Boulevard, Big River, CA
SUSPECT(S): Peter Walmsley, 42 Years Old, Resident of Big River, CA
VICTIM(S): CONFIDENTIAL
SUMMARY: On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at approximately 12:31 a.m., deputies from the Colorado River Station / Needles Police Department responded to a report of an assault involving a male victim who had arrived at the hospital for medical treatment with acute injuries. Upon arriving at the hospital, deputies contacted the victim, who was suffering from several injuries to his head and face. Medical personnel provided emergency treatment for the victim's injuries.
During the investigation, deputies determined the suspect, identified as Peter Walmsley, allegedly assaulted the victim by striking him multiple times with a blunt object. Deputies conducted an extensive search of the area where the assault occurred but were unable to locate Walmsley.
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, at approximately 10:55 a.m., deputies conducted a warrant service at Walmsley's residence where he was taken into custody. Walmsley was arrested for attempted murder and additionally booked on several outstanding warrants for spousal abuse, disobeying a court order and false imprisonment. Walmsley was transported to the Colorado River Station jail for booking. Walmsley remains in the custody of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and is being held with no bail pending a court appearance. This investigation remains on-going.
