Storm Power Outage Alert and Cooling Center Information
Over 200,00 Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) customers lost power as a result of last nights storm. Overnight they were able to restore power to 100,000 customers. In Denville about 2,100 customers lost power, as of 10AM this morning we down to 560 residents without power. There are currently 31 different issues affecting Denville. JCP&L has crews in Denville actively working on restoring another 260 customers. It may take multiple days to restore the remaining homes.
JCP&L will be conducting helicopter patrols and aerial inspections of transmission facilities, and along existing transmission line rights-of-way, as part of their ongoing storm response and system restoration efforts. These flights are being performed to assess the condition of transmission infrastructure affected by recent severe weather, identify storm-related damage, verify repairs, and support restoration planning and system reliability.
If you are using a generator to power your home due to loss of power please operate generators outdoors in a well-ventilated area at least 20 feet away from your home with the exhaust pointing away from doors and windows. Never run a generator in enclosed spaces like garages or basements, and allow the engine to cool down for at least 20 minutes before refueling to prevent fires
There is concern about the potential of another intense storm later today and tonight.
The Denville Days Activities will be held at Gardner Field today and tomorrow. Our Office of Emergency Management will be monitoring the weather and will make announcements at the field as needed.
A cooling/charging station is open today at the Denville Township Municipal Building, in the community room, from 11 am until 9pm. Anyone may visit who needs relief from the extreme heat or needs to charge an electrical device. For any non-emergency assistance call the Denville Police Dept at 973-627-4900, ext 9. If you need emergency assistance due to a heat emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.
