NARRATIVE:
UPDATE: Initial reports indicated there were four shootings at three separate locations. As deputies continued investigating the multiple shootings in East Los Angeles, they determined the incidents stemmed from a single shooting.
Deputies learned that a verbal altercation occurred at the intersection of Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue. During the altercation, the suspect produced a handgun and fired several rounds, striking two intended victims (male adults) and two uninvolved bystanders (one female adult and one male juvenile).
After being struck, the two bystanders left the scene. One later contacted deputies at the intersection of Amalia Avenue and Whittier Boulevard, while the second contacted deputies at the intersection of Amalia Avenue and East 6th Street.
At the time of the incident, it was initially believed the bystanders had been shot at those secondary locations. The investigation has since determined they were both struck during the original shooting at Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue.
All four victims were transported to a local area hospital and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
