Culver City Police Take Armed Burglary Suspect into Custody After Hours-Long Standoff
The Culver City Police Department safely took an armed burglary suspect into custody following an hours-long incident that required the coordinated efforts of patrol officers, crisis negotiators, and the K-9 unit.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a commercial business in Culver City. During the investigation, officers learned the suspect had allegedly burglarized the business, broken into a vehicle in the garage area of the location, and was armed with a knife.
Officers quickly located the suspect inside a vehicle at the business located on the 3700 block of S Robertson Boulevard. The suspect refused repeated commands to surrender, made multiple threats to harm the public, and remained barricaded in a garage area of the business while armed with a knife.
To safely resolve the incident, the Culver City Police Department quickly shut down pedestrian and vehicle access to the area and activated its Crisis Negotiation Team. For more than three hours, crisis negotiators worked to establish communication with the suspect and bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion while officers maintained containment of the scene to protect the public.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., officers deployed less-lethal tools and a police K-9, allowing officers to safely take the suspect into custody. No officers or members of the public were injured during the incident.
The suspect, 68-year-old Larry Rush of Los Angeles, was treated for minor injuries and transported to the Culver City Jail, where he was booked on charges including commercial and vehicle burglary and two outstanding felony warrants from another jurisdiction.
The Culver City Police Department commends the professionalism and restraint demonstrated by the responding officers, crisis negotiators, and K-9 team, whose coordinated efforts helped bring the incident to a safe resolution.
