Storm recovery update

The City continues cleanup efforts following the strong weekend storms that brought down dozens of trees across Hoboken and temporarily impacted several roads and parks.

City crews continue to remove tree limbs and branches, and other storm debris, throughout Hoboken, including in City parks. If you see branches or limbs blocking a street or sidewalk, move smaller branches to the curb if possible, so that Public Works crews can collect them over the next few days. Alternatively, residents may place tree debris at the curb Thursday night for regular yard waste collection, which will be completed before the end of the day on Friday. We appreciate your patience as crews continue to address storm-related damage citywide.

Below is the current status of certain parks that were impacted by the storms:

  • Church Square Park: Open, except for the ages 5 to 12 playground at the southeast corner (swings area) which is closed until further notice for repairs.
  • Pier C Park: Closed until further notice for tree removal operations.
  • Stevens Park: Open with tree removal operations occurring today.
  • Madison Street Park: Open with storm-related tree damage addressed.
  • Mama Johnson Field: Open with tree removal around the perimeter taking place over the coming days.

The City thanks the Hoboken Police Department, Hoboken Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management, Public Works, and Parking Utility for their quick response throughout, and following, the storm. The City also thanks utility partners, including PSE&G and NHSA, for their assistance during the recovery process.

Register for a tenant webinar on understanding rent control and resources

Hoboken residents are invited to attend a webinar on “Understanding Rent Control and Available Resources” on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m.

This webinar, hosted by the Rent Leveling & Stabilization Office, will help renters understand how rent control works in Hoboken, what protections may exist, and the role of the Rent Leveling and Stabilization Office. Rent Regulation Officers will also discuss available records, appeals processes, and how tenants can obtain assistance.

General questions that are not regarding specific properties may be submitted in advance to [email protected]. Please include the subject line “Rent Control Webinar.” A brief question-and-answer session will be held at the end of the presentation.

To register for this webinar, CLICK HERE

This webinar is part of a multi-week campaign to help property owners and residents better understand the City’s Rent Control Ordinance, property owner and tenant protections, and annual registration requirements. The campaign includes social media outreach, public information sessions, office hours, and online resources to increase awareness about Hoboken's rent control regulations and the services available through the Rent Leveling and Stabilization Office.

The Rent Control and Stabilization Office, located at 124 Grand St. is responsible for providing assistance to landlords and tenants as they navigate the potential impacts the Municipal Rent Control Ordinance may have on their properties and apartments as well as provide technical assistance on a wide variety of rental matters.

Property owners and residents can learn more about Hoboken's Rent Leveling and Stabilization Ordinance, annual registration requirements, and available resources by visiting the City's Rent Leveling and Stabilization Office webpage at www.hobokennj.gov/departments/rent-leveling-and-stabilization-office, by contacting the office directly for assistance at [email protected], or (201) 420-2000x1721 or (201) 420-2000x1723.
